Blog Carnivals
Jul 19th, 2008 by Dr. Rus
There was a time when blogs were simply places for people to write what was on their mind, with little to no interaction with the reader. However, as time passed, and as comment sections seemed to not fulfill the need for interaction, something known as the Blog Carnival emerged. According to the Blogging Basics site, a Blog Carnival is a “site where the blog owner decides on a topic and then invites others to write on that topic. The owner also provides links to each of the sites submitting links.” Take note, a Blog Carnival is not the same as a meme. Also, Blog Carnivals make use of what are known as permalinks. For a list of carnivals taking place around the Internet you can visit the Blog Carnival website.
I currently host two active Blog Carnivals.
There are also a few carnivals I take part in through the week, when I have time to take part.
- Randy Elrod’s Cultural Watercooler was the first place I discovered the fun of Blog Carnivals. Every week on his blog Randy hosts what he calls Watercooler Wednesday.
- Another Blog Carnival I take part in is hosted by Brody Harper In Case You Were Wondering blog. While Brody is always asking for interaction on his blog, the carnival I usually take part in is called Positive Post Tuesday.
I’m sure there are other fun carnivals out there too. But, those are the ones I host, and the ones I take part in. If you have other carnivals worth checking out, feel free to leave a comment here and tell us about them!
