A Devotional Journey
Finding Time For God

Many people know the importance of spending time with God. But, in the midst of life, sometimes it’s hard to find time for God. Schedules fill up, work overcrowds home time, kids need attention and at times, running around. In the midst of Parent-Taxi-Service quiet time quickly falls by the wayside.
As a Fellow Sojourner through this thing we call life, I fully understand the challenges of finding time for God. I know, that might sound odd coming from someone who’s spent years in ministry. I have the degrees which were supposed to train me to know better.
But somewhere along the line the words “spend time daily with God” became nothing more than a platitude to be proclaimed from the pulpit.
People would say, “Sure, that’s easy for you to say Pastor. But try living in the real world.” I would respond by saying “Life is hectic for me too, but I can find time.” As I grow older in this journey, I’m discovering it is a challenge to find quiet time.
Journey With The Greats
For the past few months I’ve felt a stirring to step out in the Fellow Sojourner area of quiet time. The idea of journaling is not foreign to me. However, the idea of journaling in a blog in a public forum is somewhat daunting. What if I reveal too much of myself through the words I jot down from my quiet time. But, I’ve also sensed the Lord saying “Step out and do it.” In other words, it seems as though the Nike catch-phrase, “Just Do It” should be followed by me.
Will I journal and journey every day? I would like to think I will. But, reality is, I probably won’t. However, in the midst of this journey, I hope to find other Fellow Sojourner’s along the way to join in this journey.
Initially the journey will look like this – Thoughts from my quiet time of reading The Best of Andrew Murray On Prayer – A Daily Devotional Journey. I will journey with Murray for the remainder of 2009.
Then, starting in 2010 the journey will be with Thomas Merton and the book entitled A Year With Thomas Merton.
What will transpire? I’m not sure. But will you join me on this journey?
